3 Polite English Expressions Advanced English Vocabulary

hi i’m vanessa from speak english with

vanessa calm if you don’t mind we’re

gonna talk about some polite expressions

today let’s get started a lot of my

english students ask me

vanessa how can i be more polite i know

that i’m probably not being rude but i

want to be extra polite i want to make

sure that the other person feels

completely comfortable well today i have

some good news we’re going to talk about

three expressions that you can use to

take your politeness to the next level

let’s start with the first one the first

expression is if you don’t mind if you

don’t mind could I ask you a question if

you don’t mind can I eat the last piece

of cake hmm maybe they do mind this word

mind means the same thing as care if you

don’t care but in this situation if you

said if you don’t care it’s a little bit

informal and because we want to be extra

polite especially in professional

situations I recommend using the word

mind if you don’t mind can I ask you a

question if you don’t mind can you pass

that paper you could ask your boss this

you could ask someone when you’re

traveling in New York and you don’t know

where to go you’re lost you could ask a

stranger this excuse me if you don’t

mind can you tell me where the Empire

State Building is if you don’t mind

could you help me this is extra polite

let’s talk about the second expression

the second one is similar to the first

one a similar construction it is if it’s

not a problem

if it’s not a problem could I take a

look at that map I need to know where

I’m going if it’s not a problem can we

reschedule the meeting if it’s not a

problem this you can add to the

beginning of your sentence just like if

you

don’t mind add this to the beginning of

your question and you’ll take it to the

next level in politeness the third

expression is would you please take a

look at my report would you please point

me in the right direction I don’t know

where to go

would you please we often use that

connected with one of the first two

expressions if you don’t mind would you

please help me see where I can find this

product in the store if it’s not a

problem would you please help me find my

way if you don’t mind if it’s not a

problem

would you please we can add these

together to create a super polite

request I hope that these three

expressions are useful to you and now is
