R vs L Advanced English Pronunciation Lesson

hi i’m vanessa from speak English with

vanessa calm bright light what’s the

difference between these two words

let’s talk about it today we’re going to

be talking about the difference between

R and L are you ready to challenge your

pronunciation muscles is it the right

light did he arrive is he alive

let’s see if you can tell the difference

let’s start by talking about one sound

then the next sound and then let’s

combine them together first

let’s start with the L sounds you might

notice that my mouth is open L and my

tongue is between my teeth my teeth are

almost biting my tongue l L light ooh I

want you to practice this sound with me

because it’s a pronunciation lesson it’s

great if I say it but it’s even better

if you’re practicing with me so let’s

say a sentence that includes a lot of L

sounds let’s say at the play she was

alive with light your tongue is coming

out of your mouth here a lot let’s say

it one more time

at the play she was alive with light

make sure that your tongue is coming out

make sure that you’re saying whew let’s

see the R sound and then let’s compare

them to practice the R sound

let’s start by over emphasizing and

exaggerating it imagine that you are an

angry dog you’re gonna sound like earth

this is the R sound your tongue is not

out of your mouth like the L sound it’s

in your mouth and it sounds a little bit

aggressive / wow this is overemphasis

so let’s see it in some normal daily

words that you’re actually going to use

because I imagine in your English

conversations you’re probably not going

or very often this sentence uses 3r

sounds we’re going to overemphasize them

first and then we’ll scale back and save

them a little more normally it is if you

pray we will arrive at the right house

let’s say it one more time and emphasize

if you pray we will arrive at the right

house did your tongue come out of your

mouth at all I hope not

this is the r sound pray arrive right

all right let’s see it fast do you think

you can do it keep that tongue in your

mouth and let’s say our final sin is

here with our if you pray we will arrive

at the right house are you ready to

combine them I think you can do it in

this challenge sentence I’m going to say

it a couple times and I want you to

write it in the comments write it on a

piece of paper write it on your arm on

the wall maybe not I want you to try

your best to test yourself to see if you

can hear the difference between the R

and the L sound and then at the end of

the lesson I’ll give you the correct

answer here’s your challenge test

sentence it is the right mouth was alive

because he liked to play could you say

it correctly can you spell it correctly

I’m going to say it slowly and then I’ll

speed it up the right mouth was alive

because he liked to play whoo you can do

it let’s say it quickly the right mouth

was alive because he liked to play the

right mouth was alive because he likes

to play I think you’ve got it write it

in the comments write it on a piece of

paper

and I’ll write the correct answer here

the right Mouse was alive because he

liked to play I hope that you heard it

correctly and if not no problem go back

and review this lesson and I recommend

shadowing my pronunciation imitating my

mouth imitating these sample sentences

and in the end I know it’s a difficult

sound so continue to repeat it and
