Andre Gabriela hello hello

Arnaud welcome I’m glad that you’re here

taking time from your busy morning or

afternoon or evening just a Hugh’s

English wonderful today we have an

advanced phrasal verb that we’re going

to talk about I called this an advanced

phrasal verb because it’s not something

that you’re gonna see in the list of top

10 phrasal verbs but it’s used a lot I

think that’s because the first part of

today’s verb is not a typical verb like

go pass walk see it’s a little longer

maybe a little more advanced so we’re

gonna practice saying it over and over

again and actually today’s phrasal verb

came from one of your questions one of

you asked me Vanessa how can I use this

phrasal verb so if you have any other

phrasal verbs for expressions or

questions that you want me to make a lot

video about or explain about you’re

welcome to ask me and I’ll try my best

include it in one of our lessons does

anyone know what is today’s phrasal verb

what’s today’s verb that we’re going to

talk about starts with Abby and I guess

if you see the title of today’s video

then you probably already know but it is

to be bombarded by something bombarded

by something but do you know what this

phrasal verb we can use it in two

different ways we could say bombarded by

something or bombarded with something

and it’s the same thing so today I’m

gonna use both by and with

interchangeably and you can do the same

thing too if some of you asked a

question or have a sample sentence and I

feel like maybe one is better than the

other I’ll let you know but from my

personal experience I feel like both of

these are really the same so let’s

practice using this together and I want

to ask you a question have you ever gone

to a website let’s say Amazon amazon.com

yesterday I was on amazon.com and then

when I went on Facebook oh I was

bombarded by advertisements from the

products that I was looking at on Amazon

Amazon knows that I was looking at those

products and they knew that I didn’t buy

them yet so they sent me an

advertisement on Facebook everywhere

there were probably 1015 advertisements

on Facebook for Amazon so I want to know

for you

what kind of advertisements do you get

bombarded

by who all right I’m gonna write this

sample sentence here on my clipboard

just to help you but this is something

that can be useful maybe you forgot

about that product and you want to go

back and buy it later or it can be

annoying because you were just curious

you were just looking at different

things and now you’re bombarded with all

the advertisements so I’m gonna write

this sample sentence here I was

bombarded by a lot of ads I’m just gonna

say ads it really means advertisements

but we could say I was bombarded by a

lot of ads it seems like most people

don’t really enjoy this don’t really

enjoy this concept being bombarded by

ads and generally being bombarded by

something means it’s overwhelming you

don’t really want that to happen

ah we have some great sample sentences

here contest

I’m usually bombarded by beauty product

advertisements on says when UNAM says

when I do online shopping I am always

bombarded by several shopping brands

yeah they’re everywhere

Lucic says I hate to be bombarded by

silly content on YouTube oh yeah YouTube

thinks that you’re interested in

something but maybe you’re not really

interested but it’s everywhere you are

bombarded by that you’re bombarded by

your students mail from all over the

world

oh well bombarded by has kind of a

negative connotation it means you don’t

really want it it’s annoying

Federica you’ve got it correct it’s

annoying

but when I get emails from students it’s

not annoying it’s actually pretty

interesting because I’m curious about a

lot of people write to me about their

experience learning English or some

questions that they have and it really

helps me to know if I’m on the right

path am i helping in the right way or

maybe I should try something different

maybe teach in a different way or teach

some different style of expressions so

it’s useful for me so let’s remember

that this is usually negative oh we’ve

got a really interesting different kind

of sentence here I am bombarded by my

wife when I come home late ooh

so when you come home your wife is

everywhere where have you been what are

you doing

what oh really aggressive and everywhere

asking lots of questions not letting you

forget that you came home late ooh

so we can be bombarded by ads or we

could be bombarded by other things CEO

she says I was bombarded by a lot of

rain during the last race oh yeah

it rained too much and this is a great

way to use it I was bombarded by rain

bombarded Oh Igor has a good point I

hate getting bombarded by smoke as I’m

enjoying my meal yeah if you’re eating

outside and some people beside you are

are smoking you can’t really completely

enjoy your meal because you have to

breathe you want to be able to breathe

clearly Andre says I was bombarded by a

lot of boring conversations oh so it’s

just non-stop around you you want to get

away from it I think this is something

that we can use maybe if you go to let’s

say the typical example is a family

reunion you haven’t seen your aunts and

uncles and cousins for two years and all

of a sudden everyone is asking you the

say

in questions how’s your life how’s your

job how’s your family and after 30

minutes you feel pretty tired of

answering those same questions again and

again so you can use the sentence I was

bombarded by my family I was bombarded

by so many questions now let’s quickly

talk about the pronunciation for this

it’s pretty clear there’s not really any

silent letters but because it’s kind of

a long word I want to make sure that

you’re pronouncing it correctly so let’s

say BOM bar did bombarded bombarded

bombarded bombarded with advertisements

bombarded by advertisements you can

maybe see here we have a a root word

bomb and when we say bomb now bomb is

typically something that is explosive

and destructive and when we say this

word there were a lot of bombs the B is

silent but when we say this forward

bombarded bombarded barded you can hear

the B so in this word the B is not

silent let’s make sure that we say it

but when you say this word the root word

by itself make sure that the B is gone

so here bombarded I was bombarded Oh

Manuel says I don’t like getting

bombarded by my boss while I’m studying

oh you’re trying to focus and it’s

impossible let’s also practice using

bombarded with now you can use the same

kind of sentences but let’s just

practice with so that you’ve got two

options because you’re going to

you’re both of these and both of them

are fine you might have noticed that I

use buy more often than with but really

both are fine don’t worry about it

so we can let me take one of your

sentences here and add with instead oh

how about James says I was bombarded

with a lot of criticism oh this is

interesting

after I wrote the article so maybe you

wrote a controversial article you wrote

an article about something that other

people didn’t agree with and there was a

lot of criticism so you could say I was

bombarded with a lot of criticism I was

bombarded by a lot of criticism both are

excellent I want to make sure that we

have a possibility to answer any

questions about this expression because

I saw a couple here such as can we use

this in a positive sense can we use this

for things that are good someone here

wrote that when I get home I was

bombarded by my children’s kisses you

can say this but typically it’s kind of

sarcastic or a joke because usually

bombarded we have our root word here

that is bomb our root word is a bomb and

a bomb is a a bad thing a negative thing

so typically we imagine destruction

annoyance to much of something

and when you get home from work if your

kids are giving you kisses it’s a

positive thing you can’t get too much so

if you say this with a positive

situation I was bombarded by my kids

kisses then you kind of can say it with

a smile maybe with a joke like oh it’s

so much I can’t take it it’s so much

it’s overwhelming but usually it’s with

kind of a negative situation yes we can

use this with homework I was bombarded

by homework I was bombarded by homework

Barbara says your videos are being

bombarded by a lot of comments so maybe

for me I’m trying to read and interact

with your comments but I am being

bombarded by so many that it’s hard for

me to read all of them but that’s a good

thing right

Ariella says my daughter was bombarded

with a lot of gifts for her birthday oh

so maybe this has a connotation that she

was overwhelmed that she got so many

gifts she was bombarded by so many gifts

but in the end she was happy because she

got a lot of interesting things Oh

Brenna says I was bombarded by my

daughter when she wanted something ooh

so maybe your daughter doesn’t stop

asking you when she wants something she

repeats it again and again and again and

I hope that that’s something that you

can do with English when you learn

something new you can repeat it again

and again and again so let’s practice

saying a sentence all together let’s

practice saying a sentence using

bombarded by whoo hmm let’s try to

connect this with English but because

it’s a negative thing I want to try to

create a sentence somewhat positive

using English how about i/o if you want

to write this as a dictation go ahead

you can write this in the chat box write

this in the comments try to write this

and see if you can write it accurately

how about I I don’t want to be bombarded

by boring English material I want only

useful material I don’t want to be

bombarded by boring English material I

want only useful English material I

don’t want to be bombarded by boring

English material I want only positive

useful interesting English material and

this sentence I want to say it again and

again with you so that you can say it

out loud practice your pronunciation

practice your sentence structure and

speaking because I think it’s really

useful to hear your voice

using English it’s good to hear someone

else’s voice listening is really

important but the most important thing

is imitation and using it if you have

kids in your house or you have ever been

around kids you know that they love to

imitate exactly what other people are

doing so if you say a bad word they’re

going to imitate it if you do something

funny or crazy they’re going to imitate

it and that’s how they learn so this is

the first step is imitating my sentence

and trying to use this so let’s say this

all together Thank You Sebastian for

writing this down I don’t want to be

bombarded by boring English material I

want only positive material great let’s

say this together I’m gonna say it

slowly I want you to repeat try to

follow my lips follow the my tongue try

to use the same

pronunciation I don’t want to be

bombarded by boring English material

I want useful material let’s say it a

little faster because we can link these

together and emphasize certain parts of

the sentence I don’t want to be

bombarded by boring English material

I want useful English material I don’t

want to be bombarded by boring English

material

I want useful material and I hope that

today this lesson about this advanced

phrasal verb will help you to expand

your vocabulary and also just help you

to understand more as well because

understanding is a great step next is

using it yourself so first of all now

you’ve heard this phrasal verb a lot so

I hope that for you

you are not bombarded by boring material

I hope that you will be surrounded by

useful material repeat this lesson write

down a lot of the sample sentences write

some of your own sample sentences and

use this when you speak with someone in

English when you write in English

use this phrasal verb advanced phrasal
