How to Overcome Your Fear of Speaking English

have you ever put together a puzzle you

see the picture on the box

then you dump out the pieces and you

start putting it together

do you immediately know exactly where

every piece goes

no probably not you have to try

different pieces

one at a time until you have the picture

completed learning to speak english is a

lot like putting together a puzzle

when you’re putting together a puzzle

it’s best to sort out the pieces

and group similar pieces together when

you’re speaking english

this is like learning vocabulary grammar

and pronunciation

then you want to start building the

frame

think of the frame of the puzzle as the

basics

the frame is the straight edges and the

corner pieces

well this puzzle is a circle but you

know what i mean

this holds everything together and gives

you

a frame for learning to speak english

confidently

think of each puzzle piece as a word

each word you learn and practice becomes

a puzzle piece that fits with

another piece and then another and

another until you start to see

a full picture emerge maybe there’s one

part of the english language

puzzle that’s really interesting to you

or that you’re really good at

so you fill it in easily but then there

is another part that seems really hard

where are all these pieces and how will

i ever fit it together

no worries take it slow and observe the

pieces and

how they fit together can you figure out

how to connect it to something else

you’ve learned

word by word and piece by piece you make

progress you fill in the gaps and you

start to see the full picture emerge

until finally your puzzle is complete

and you are speaking english

fluently and confidently here are four

ways to start

putting together your english language

puzzle

number one practice every day the more

you expose yourself to english and

include it in your daily life

the more you will be able to organize

the

puzzle pieces and start fitting together

the full picture

even practicing 15 or 20 minutes a day

can make a big difference in your

language puzzle

here are a couple ideas for getting 15

to 20 minutes of english practice every

day

first subscribe to this channel get a

new video

every friday right now that’s what

you’re doing

and number two listen to podcasts or

watch

tv shows in english this is enjoyable

and you’re learning a lot

my second tip to help you start putting

together your english language puzzle

is to commit to learning at least one

new word

every day think of this as adding pieces

to your puzzle

filling in the big picture don’t forget

to think about how

all your pieces or vocabulary fit

together

if you feel stuck dive into your

favorite topic

and build your vocabulary from there

this is like

building your favorite part of the

puzzle first

remember it all fits together here are a

couple ways to learn at least

one new word every day when you

encounter an english word you don’t know

look it up make a note of it and

practice it

or label as many things in your living

space as you can using the english name

this is very fun

and practical my third tip to help you

start

putting together your english language

puzzle is to

speak you’ll never see the full picture

of your

english puzzle if you never practice

speaking

it’s the whole point of the puzzle right

no matter how much time you spend

fitting the pieces together if you never

actually speak out loud

you’ll never be able to speak english

confidently

so get started today by trying one of

these tips

number one if you don’t have someone to

practice with

talk to your pet or talk to yourself you

can narrate your actions

as you cook dinner or clean your house

number two is find other english

speakers to practice with

even if you’re only able to connect

virtually like with skype or

zoom this is extremely useful and you

can make friends around the world

my fourth tip to help you put together

your

english puzzle is to take a break when

you need it

have you ever been trying to put

together a puzzle and you can’t figure

out that missing piece

maybe you even convince yourself that

the piece is lost that you’ll never find

it

that it was never in the box to begin

with learning to speak english can feel

the same way

like you’re missing something and maybe

you’ll never find it

but when you take a break and come back

to the puzzle

and english learning with a fresh mind

you’ll find that missing piece and it

will all click into place

if you need a break try one of these

options

take a walk outside in the fresh air or

turn on your favorite music and take a

dance break

remember that learning english without

speaking

and without practicing is like putting

together a puzzle with

the picture side down if you don’t get

to see the full picture

what’s the fun in putting it all

together well
