Keep Your Hopes Up How to stay positive in English

hi i’m vanessa from speak english with

vanessa calm is it hard to keep your

hopes up let’s talk about it lately in

the u.s. there’s been a lot of talk

about politics Oh

politics sometimes it’s so frustrating

sometimes it makes you angry sometimes

it makes you hopeless and that’s where

this expression is coming from today an

expression that I’d like to help you use

is keep your hopes up keep your hopes up

so I might say when I look at American

politics especially nowadays it’s hard

to keep my hopes up

it’s hard to stay positive because

there’s so many things going on that

could be negative it’s hard to keep my

hopes up or we could use this in a

positive way maybe your friend is

feeling especially sad maybe she wants

ice cream and there’s no ice cream in

the house and all the stores are closed

it’s a desperate situation maybe you

could say to your friends keep your

hopes up soon the stores will open again

and you can have ice cream well that’s a

little extreme example but it’s

something that you can use to encourage

other people keep your hopes up you

could use it just by itself for example

what I told you about ice cream telling

your friend keep your hopes up or maybe

if someone feels really upset about

politics you could say to them to keep

your hopes up someday

it will get better or keep your hopes up

I hope that the candidates will actually

do something good for the country keep

your hopes up we keep this all together

as you saw from my examples but we could

change it just a little bit to say she

has trouble keeping her hopes up

typically we talk about you

hopes I have trouble keeping my hopes up

or you keep your hopes up but you could

say it about someone else her hopes

their hopes well I hope that this video

helps you to keep your hopes up about

English if you’re feeling like English

is challenging right now maybe you’re on

that roller coaster and maybe now is a

low time a down time I challenge you
