How to elevate your everyday
i want us to think about our days
differently
i would submit that the measure of our
days is not
a measure of what we do or achieve but
it’s how we feel
if we can be energetically elevated for
the moments that count
how much better off could we
collectively be
we’re all in a time where we’ve had to
slow down take stock
be in the stress of the unknown abandon
maybe even our aspirations we have for
our lives
not knowing the path forward anymore
taking that pressure off yourself to
reach your personal goals is great isn’t
it
but giving up never think of all the
creative works inventions
speeches beauty in this world that would
not exist because this current pandemic
has tricked you into thinking that you
can’t do that
the world simply isn’t like that anymore
this pandemic has changed how we operate
some of us have lost work we’re fighting
for security of our health
food housing safety and equality
and we’ve had to stay inside and away
from those we care about most
i submit that if we can collectively put
ourselves in this elevated state
more often more times every day then
there’s even greater
more opportunity for social good
let’s reprogram our operating systems to
be more energetic
so what is this elevated energy
i’m not talking about happiness per se
although that enjoy may be a natural
byproduct
but i’m talking about getting one’s mind
and one’s body
into a receptive state to react in a
better way
to surrounding circumstances for the
greater good
and maybe it’s akin to mind training
like buddhists or
physical like body and mind training
like
for an athlete but let’s all think
together right now
let’s think together what happens when
your body
feels uplifted well at that time there’s
many psychological and physiological
processes and factors at play
and perhaps the yogis call this the flow
state or buddhist enlightenment
but i want to call it an easy framework
an easy framework for you to create
elevated energy in your day
every day so you too can operate from a
place of feeling good
and get through all those inevitable
daily tasks
responsibilities of life with zest
not simply holding a marker ticking off
items on your to-do list achieved
getting into this zone of energetic
elevation has a method and if we as
humans
operate on this level we’d be better
able to be kind and compassionate to
others
to problem solve love and to inspire
now isn’t this a better measure of
productivity
i submit if we collectively put
ourselves in this state
more often more times every day there’s
just more opportunity for positive
social good
so what is this method well the first
step
is acknowledging your intuition
intuition what is it
and how do we attune to it well
some people say it’s that internal
guiding force within
the voice inside your head biological
researchers have defined
intuition as being that influence of
your non-conscious
emotional information that you get from
your body
or your brain such as that instinctual
feeling that gut sensation
spiritually some have said it’s your
life force
i’m not a psychologist and i’m not a
buddhist
i am a lawyer i deal in facts as applied
to the law
and ignoring external facts for me and
using only my intuition would not be a
good way for me to go about my work
but by using my intuition to put myself
in a more
energetically elevated state when it
matters most
then i’d be better able to solve other
people’s problems and perform
well that’s a win-win those in your
science have said that in the morning
this is the time when you’re first
closest
to your intuition and your subconscious
in those moments that you wake up
so listen to yourself what is your
intuition saying
we can all agree that each of us have a
subconscious it’s what
what’s what being human is but how you
listen to it well
that’s up to you but once you tune into
it
the most important thing you next need
to do is take
action take action in line with your
intuition
must admit if everyone acted in
their lives with this good and true
purpose
how much better off would the world be
now at age 23 i became a barrister
looking back
i can see i didn’t have very much life
experience behind me
yet i could effectively cross-examine
witnesses
to negate criminal intent but i could
not even cross-examine myself
to ask the questions that mattered the
most
and the question i’ve since asked myself
most
is how did i perform in the moments that
matter
and setting aside what i could put down
to training and practice
when i take a step back and i look
i realize that the act of helping people
and solving their problems aligns very
highly with my own intuition
and so recently when i stepped into
entrepreneurship
when things have been a little bit more
subjective and less fact
based i’ve had to lean into my intuition
and align my actions there with all the
more
so i started to think about intuition in
true silicon valley style
and in tree style refining and following
developing other strategies for growth
sometimes called hacking applies
but how can we tap into it how can we
hack it
silicon valley loves peak performance
hacking days
hacking your energy for growth but we’re
not machines
at least not yet the danger is that
we’ve become accustomed
to measuring our output by what we do
and especially in this age of innovation
ideation and output
how can we view and optimize our
energies
our systems our optimism positivity
focus determination tenacity and
intelligence differently
by looking at how we operate of course
we can’t do any of those things if we’re
in a lackluster
burnt out depressed despondent depleted
state
what has been the greatest personal
effect of this pandemic on me
or on you i certainly felt the
exhaustion of the last few months
perhaps you too have been impacted by
empathic distress
overwhelm at times having and just
wanting to feel like you wanted to shut
down
this is the moment that you need to tune
into your intuition all the more
this is how you get your energy back
your motivation
and go from low productivity when you go
back out into the world
so i’ve applied some ideation and some
reverse engineering to this process of
being able to perform
in the moments that matter most so
getting back to action
how can we take action in line with our
intuition
well action can take many forms and when
coupled with our intuition can lead to
this energetic
elevation intuition and action
equals energetic elevation
activate hope futurecast yourself as if
you’ve already achieved those goals you
know the ones that
you thought couldn’t happen anymore stop
tricking yourself that it can’t
celebrate yourself but more importantly
celebrate all those around you
celebrate what you’ve already overcome
and support and celebrate those
that support you too trust yourself
ignite inspiration inspiration then it’s
like a box of matches you know you
strike it
light a fire under it not
not in a paramedical way that you might
end up needing a barrister but
simply do what you can follow it around
for a while
sing a song write a poem say it
play tennis esa don’t deny it
and if you can’t find what strikes
figure out what you’ve been hiding
quit hiding your magic openness
and put yourself in a place where you
can
be open and receptive to your intuition
some people meditate others day dream
some people stay up all night no fear
have no fear fact minimize
fear and if we act with no
fear to be less violence in society
and a lot more room for compassion
so i submit if you align your intuition
with these actions or any one of them
you become in this energetically
elevated state
and think of the effect of that on those
around you
so the next time that you’re feeling
like you need an uplift
tune into your intuition follow it
around for a while
take action and perhaps right now your
intuition is telling you that a friend
would really love
benefit from hearing all this so by all
means share it
but truly actually practicing what it is
and being in this elevated state will be
all the more inspirational that
that they need and the social good will
flow
and so when the world opens up right
there and it will
and the demands increase on your time
and your day
it’s not what you do and think that
matters most
but how you feel in here
be the advocate in your own life elevate
your everyday thank you
