[Music]

[Applause]

right here in east county there’s a

hidden treasure

of seven lakes santee lakes

santee lakes is a place where you can go

bike riding

camping fishing picnicking and they even

hold events

there it is also where you can spend

time with your family

my favorite thing to do at santee lakes

is to go on their playgrounds

and have picnics santee lakes

has seven pretty lakes but did you know

it is designed to recycle water water is

important

plants animals and people our

hidden treasure of santee lakes helps

make the world

a fresh place to live before the water

gets recycled

it’s known as gray water so

how do we remove dirty bacteria from

gray water to make a potable or to drink

santee lakes they filter grey water

to irrigate the city’s sand tea

each lake acts like a filter until the

water is safe to use

the 50 of water is used for golf courses

city parks and local schools

their recycling water project diverts

two

million gallons of partially treated

sewage

from the pacific ocean every day that’s

730 million gallons every year

have you ever imagined a world without

fresh water

people and animals would not survive in

san diego the

average rainfall is 12 inches of rain

but so far we’ve had under 3 inches

the u.s average rain is 38 inches

saving water is important for san diego

here are a couple different ways we can

help save water

whenever you wash your hands don’t leave

the water running

since baths use a lot of water take

less bass did you know that bass use

37 gallons of water that’s a lot of

water

but take shorter showers instead and use

only 20 gallons of water

try capturing rainwater in a bucket you

can use this water for your plants in

your house

as well as outside if you do just one of

these ideas a day

we can help save our community

santee lakes is a very important

resource

but so are all of us and saving the

water that is so very important for our

earth

i encourage us all to be responsible

with our water

and when you have time go visit our

beautiful treasure
