another in English lesson today I’m
going to teach you five useful questions
to ask in a restaurant
I love eating in restaurants with
friends mostly because I don’t have to
do the washing-up but eating in an
english-speaking restaurant can be hard
if you don’t feel confident speaking
English have you ever opened your mouth
when asking a waiter a question and then
suddenly you forget every single
question you’ve ever learnt in English
and you close your mouth close your eyes
point on the menu and hope that what you
picked is what you want to eat I have
many times when traveling in other
country in today’s lesson I’m going to
teach you some useful questions to ask
in a restaurant in some English
questions your voice your intonation
needs to go up at the end do you
understand do you understand here that
my voice goes up at the end do you
understand
let’s try some more questions can i book
a table to book a table is to ask the
staff at a restaurant to keep a table
for you for a time in the future usually
you will book a table before the time
that you want to eat and you will
probably do it over the phone can i book
a table remember that it’s a question so
we need to raise our voice at the end
can i book a table
can i book a table can i book a table
for four people at 7:00 p.m. you may
have also heard the verb reserved used
in the same way can I reserved a table
can I reserve a table in this question
the verb booked and reserved has the
same meaning so you can choose either do
you serve this is an important question
to ask when you need to find out more
specific information about what food or
drink the restaurant serves do you serve

voice needs to go up at the end
do you serve alcohol do you serve
vegetarian food do you serve pizza

asking for something or for help from
somebody can I have the menu can I have
the menu notice also that in spoken
English can is often reduced to can can
can can I have the menu can I have the
wine list can I have the bill please you
can make this sentence even more polite
by replacing can with could or may could
I have the wine list may I have the bill
please
excuse me
remember that if you’re interrupting
someone it’s polite to say excuse me
before you ask your question excuse me
