How to Say SUPPOSED TO in American English

In this American English pronunciation video,

you’re going to learn how to say the
phrases: used to and supposed to.

Hey guys, I’m making this video on vacation.
So that means we have a weird wood background.

But we have the benefit of a lot of friends
and family to help me make this video.

I recently got a request on how to
pronounce, ‘supposed to’ and ‘used to.’

Great request, we use these phrases all the time

and there’s actually a couple
different pronunciations.

Now the phrase: supposed to.

This is similar to ‘used to,’ in that if it’s at
the end of the sentence we make it an OO vowel.

But if we’re going to carry on with this sentence,
we make that last sound a schwa. For example:

Rachel are you going to the meeting tonight?
I’m supposed to.

End of sentence, I make it the OO vowel.

But if I’m going to make a whole
sentence and it’s not at the end,

I’m supposed to go to the meeting tonight. Then
I make it the schwa, supposed to, supposed to.

Now we have a three syllable phrase, da-DA-da,

with stress on the middle syllable,
supposed to, supposed to.

We start with the S-schwa,
su-, su-, su-, su-, su-.

So my tongue tip is down, ss-,

the front part is pressing up a little bit
to put tension in the tongue su-, su-,

and then the tongue relaxes for the schwa,
su-, su-.

Then we have the stressed syllable, it begins
with a P so lips come together, suppo-.

Then we have the OH as in NO Diphthong.

So we have a little jaw drop at first and
then some lip rounding, suppo-, suppo-.

The ending is just like used to, used to.

We drop the -ED and because we’re linking
the Z sound into an unvoiced sound,

we’re going to unvoice Z,
and it’s going to become an S,

s-to, s-to; s-to, s-to. Supposed to, supposed to.

Let’s hear some other people say these phrases.

I’m supposed to call Sarah later.

I’m supposed to be there at four.

I’m supposed to call Dave later.

Rachel did you register for class?
No, I’m supposed to.

David did you email that lady?
Oh! I’m supposed to.

Supposed to, supposed to.

Supposed to, supposed to.

Supposed to, supposed to.

Rachel did you register for class?

No, I’m supposed to,
I’m supposed to, I’m supposed to.

David did you email that lady?

Oh! I’m supposed to, oh! I’m supposed to,
oh! I’m supposed to.

I’m supposed to call Sarah later.
I’m supposed to, I’m supposed to, I’m supposed to.

I’m supposed to be there at four.
I’m supposed to, I’m supposed to, I’m supposed to.

I’m supposed to call Dave later.
I’m supposed to, I’m supposed to, I’m supposed to.

I’m supposed to call Sarah later.

I’m supposed to be there at four.

I’m supposed to call Dave later.

Rachel did you register for class?
No, I’m supposed to.

David did you email that lady?
Oh! I’m supposed to.

在这个美式英语发音视频中,

您将学习如何说出以下
短语:used to 和 should to。

大家好,我在假期制作这个视频。
所以这意味着我们有一个奇怪的木质背景。

但是我们有很多朋友
和家人帮助我制作这个视频。

我最近收到了一个关于如何发音的请求
,“supposed to”和“used to”。

很好的请求,我们一直使用这些短语

,实际上有几个
不同的发音。

现在的短语:应该。

这类似于“used to”,如果它
在句末,我们将其设为 OO 元音。

但是,如果我们要继续这句话,
我们会让最后一个声音成为 schwa。 例如:

Rachel

su-,su-。

然后我们有重读音节,它
以 P 开头,所以嘴唇靠在一起,假设-。

然后我们有没有双元音中的 OH。

所以我们一开始有一点下巴下垂,
然后是一些嘴唇圆润,suppo-,suppo-。

结局就像习惯了,习惯了。

我们去掉 -ED,因为我们
将 Z 音连接成清音,所以

我们要清音 Z
,它会变成 S、

s-to、s-to; s-to,s-to。 应该的,应该的。

让我们听听其他人说这些短语。

我应该稍后给莎拉打电话。

我应该四点到那儿。

我应该稍后给戴夫打电话。

Rachel 你报名上课了吗?
不,我应该这样做。

大卫,你给那位女士发邮件了吗?
哦! 我应该。

应该的,应该的。

应该的,应该的。

应该的,应该的。

Rachel 你报名上课了吗?

不,我应该,

我应该四点到那儿。
我应该,我应该,我应该。

我应该稍后给戴夫打电话。
我应该,我应该,我应该。

我应该稍后给莎拉打电话。

我应该四点到那儿。

我应该稍后给戴夫打电话。

Rachel 你报名上课了吗?
不,我应该这样做。

大卫,你给那位女士发邮件了吗?
