Public Speaking Training How to present with confidence in any situation with Uri Sabat
I’m in a slightly different location
today I’m actually in the studio’s of
last cuarenta and I’ve got a very
special guest his name is Audie Sabbats
and well already introduce yourself yeah
how are you doing nice to meet you guys
here I’m I’m only salad I’m from Spain I
work here in los Cuarenta which is a
radio station the number one area
station in in Spain and tonight we had
Lucy as a guest star of our show and she
she’s quite good at Spanish at least
good
no it was really really good fun and I’m
going to leave a little link down to
that interview in the description box if
you want to check that out but I thought
today since so many of you have been
asking me about presenting and
presentation skills who better to ask
than Audie who does it every single day
of his life
yeah well the thing is that well I
I do it every every day here on the
radio we had the chance to interview
like big artists such as Justin Bieber
Coldplay Ariana Grande
I saw you you interviewed Justin Bieber
yeah yeah yeah it was funny cuz he was
here sitting here next yeah yeah yeah
yeah I’m still the chair let’s see well
I can’t promise anything okay so yeah we
have the chance to meet the really
interesting people and the fact to
present or to speak with with artists or
whatever is just be prepared know the
people you have in front okay is a
really important thing if if you if you
have to present something or if you have
to interview someone you you should know
that person yeah how do you research
them oh if if it’s someone like really
known you just google it
and there’s a lot of information also
there’s a lot of interviews and you can
you can get some ideas from from there
but the thing is to create like good
connection with the with with the person
you know because maybe I’m talking to
you and and if I ask you some weird
questions or if if I go to straight to
some aspects that maybe you don’t like
then on the first you you cover yourself
and you don’t yeah well when I came in
here I felt so welcomed immediately
everyone said hello and it made me want
to answer the most particular questions
yeah yes sir you answer that you had
well okay you should see our video in
Spanish and translate it no guys don’t
do so what I want to know is so many of
my students have trouble with confidence
especially when speaking in English how
do you deal with that and have you found
yourself getting more confident as you
go along yeah the thing is that if
English is not your first language then
maybe you you for example you are not
confident if you have to speak in front
of a lot of people in your own language
imagine if you have to do it in another
language
so the the main thing is that everybody
knows or everybody everybody see that
you are not an English speaker so don’t
worry about doing any mistakes cuz it’s
not your first language and the crowd we
will accept that the main thing you have
to you have to think about it is try to
express yourself as more as much as you
can
not just with with words but with your
body so maybe maybe you can think about
if you are doing a presentation or or if
you are talking to to an audience maybe
you should take like something to show
them or or give some some some key
things that that help you to present
your subject or whatever yeah okay um
have you ever had any bad experiences
speaking English yeah well the thing is
that I will tell you that guys
we met Lucy in YouTube event in in
London she was wonderful with us and
yeah of course and we had to we had to
speak in English in front of you know an
English crowd and first of all my
colleague Miguel and me we were like
okay we will try our best and maybe we
did some mistakes but we didn’t we
didn’t care about it it was really good
so in fact if if you are in front of an
audience and you do some mistakes the
first thing is not to collapse and then
try to go away from that path because if
you are like blocked or whatever and you
keep pushing there then you you you will
fail for sure so take a breath stay calm
and try to go on the other way I
completely agree with that because as
you guys know I’ve just had my first
ever presenting experience the unleash
conference and when I walked out there
for the first time I felt really really
nervous but I started thinking like
these guys aren’t here to see me fail
they’re here to see me succeed and that
really helped I felt like I had a
connection that they were there for me
of course
I think that the first the first minute
or the first five minutes maybe you you
can be a little bit scared or nervous or
whatever but then you have to be
confident thing that that you know the
subject you are the best person to be
there and and you just need to be
yourself and try to explain everybody
what you have in your mind yeah so relax
try to enjoy it and go ahead okay
wonderful and can I ask you how you
learned English how you’ve got to this
amazing level well I think you you
always can improve more and and be more
confident with with your English or
Spanish or whatever you you’re learning
but the thing is that for my job I had
to to work with with the English English
language so often so I tried always to
see English movies I I studied on the on
the school also I went i went to london
i lived there like for a couple of
months or something i lived in the
center of London I was 18 years old and
yeah I went there to to I was a waiter
in London when I was 18 years old
which restaurant oh yeah it was called
busy yeah yeah I was a pizza pizza guy
and I had a lot of fun we enjoy it and
then if you go abroad and you you you go
to the country where you’re learning the
language then you you can you can begin
and then practice practice see I think
that’s so cool that you were working as
a waiter in London because at the moment
when you go to London
it’s full of Spanish people and Italians
a lot of Spanish and Italians there’s a
lot of other nationalities as well going
there to improve their English but in
the end they end up socializing with
other Spaniards
yeah and going out with them working
with them living with them and you don’t
seem to improve did you find that at all
yeah well the thing is that I went with
my with my friends so we went like five
five guys I remember I were hour I went
there with 300 euros and the last day I
I the 15th day I
I just got 20 20 bags in my in my pocket
and I said well my friends have job I
don’t have anything I will have to
return to Barcelona and I said no no I I
have to stay here and then I I got that
job but finally you do you socialize
with with English people and you spend
all the money you earn every night so
it’s it’s funny and very important
question do you have a favorite word in
English I know it’s difficult but
there’s a word is a little bit strange
word but I learned it last day it’s
obnoxious oh that is a good word
yeah noxious yeah nice yeah obnoxious
it’s not a good thing to be obnoxious
but but it’s really I don’t know I
remember this was my last question for
you is an extremely important one what
do you think about English food since
you lived in England okay nice to meet
you Lucy
great no okay
I’m Spanish right our food is amazing I
think I think English English for these
is different but I love no no no no but
I’ve been quite quite a lot a lot of
times in in England and Ivy I’ve eaten
good but I prefer tortilla come on
and this kind of thing I see Gambas yeah
oh yeah yeah yeah yeah sangria
I’m sorry Mon hem club see ya got
employees from the south yeah okay
