hello everyone
my name is anna givanovic i'm an alumna
from
uc merced's class of 2015
and i'm very excited to be part of tedx
uc merced's conference this year
my talk is about empathy in the
workplace

years ago
a woman came to see me for help with an
abusive marriage
she was an emt who worked for a local
ambulance service
she was smart and strong and emotionally
tough
as with other clients

i was deep
in the san yacito mountains of southern
california
it was late january it was an overcast
and chilly day
it would also become a very
painful one i had just sustained

i want to talk about a single word
that's it just
one word a word that has become
ingrained in the vernacular of corporate
marketing teams
educational institutions and the leaders
of our nation
if i say the word dog
what's the first thing that comes to
your mind if you're like me
or many others you might think pet or
furry animal or
something along the lines of man's best
friend these are by
imagine
you've just finished up a long day of
work at the studio that you're recording
your brand new free workouts every
single day for the entire world
and it's finally time to lock up and go

it all started with setting an intention
sort of like a new year's resolution but
it was october
october of the longest year many of us
have ever lived
adjusting to a new normal teach
