The impossible is never impossible
smartphones
everyone here in this room has one and
everyone here most definitely knows
someone who owns one
but has anyone ever really thought about
the concept of a smartphone
this tidy box of plastic and metal
holds the power to connect us to all
corners of the world
it gives us answers to any question we
have
it gives us knowledge it gives us
friendship it gives us power
if we go back a hundred years ago
this technology would have been
considered impossible
witchcraft even as would mo as with most
things we consider to be normal nowadays
like traveling to the other side of hong
kong in a matter of minutes
talking to someone who isn’t physically
there in the room with you
looking at pictures that someone from
the other side of the world took
when you think about it we’ve progressed
so much
in such a short amount of time so much
so that all of these impossible things
are now considered to be the norm
but what if i told you that we will soon
be able to surpass our current progress
what if i told you that what we now
think is impossible
will soon become our reality what if i
told you
that we will be able to communicate with
our brains
i’m sure everyone here has experienced
something like that before
when you were younger where you’re
pretending to have superpowers
with your friends when you’d imagine the
powers you have and what and the kind of
things you do with them
when i was younger i desperately wanted
the ability to read minds
or control things with my brain i
thought that with this power
i’d never have to study for a test ever
again
and i just daydream away thinking of all
sorts of things i could do
i wouldn’t even have to turn on my phone
to listen to music
i could just lie there in bed and simply
think
about what i wanted to do and it would
happen
when i found out about about the newer
link
it was like magic it was like this tiny
flame in my heart
just suddenly burst forward and set
everything ablaze
how all of my childhood dreams and
wishes had just been granted
and the impossible had just
become possible now
you might be wondering what exactly is
the neuralink
well the neural link is a small chip
that can be implanted in your brain
and it’s developed and designed by elon
musk
that allows us to control our devices
with only our brains
the technical side of it makes it sound
less mysterious and magical
than it is where you’re basically
controlling your phone
with the chip using bluetooth but
still it’s a massive step forward into a
technological utopia that so far has
only been found in our dream
now it sounds pretty unfeasible to be
completely honest
as well as something that’s needlessly
expensive
and dangerous nothing more than a pipe
dream
after all it does sound like something
that is
just impossible to achieve and nothing
but
an idea has just been taken from it
but look at all the things that we’ve
already achieved before
and all of these things were once
thought to be impossible as well
things like planes cars and trains
have that have helped us to achieve the
impossible in the past
so who’s to say the neurolink won’t be
our future
as we advance technology advances with
us
it merges with our lives and becomes an
irreplaceable part of our past
our present and our future some people
do worry that
with the advancement of our future
technology would
completely take over our lives that
someday
our creations will be our end and
inevitably
our pride and joy will be our
destruction
but those people forget that technology
has helped us advance
and has helped it helped us reach
further beyond our wildest
dreams and it’s still here with us today
paving the way for a brighter future
technology is everywhere it’s everywhere
around us and it’s now considered to be
the new normal
let’s say you want to take a walk
outside
something rather rare for us to do
nowadays
you start by leaving your home you bring
your phone
you bring your wallets and put it on
your bag etc etc
you open the front door and you take the
elevator downstairs to the ground floor
you then go on your walk maybe listening
to some music
or a podcast and maybe you start to feel
a little hungry
so you just take the bus or a taxi
or just find the nearest convenience
store
and you buy some snacks you walk in
and the doors open and you feel
the cool air rush towards you
you decide to just pick what you want
and because it’s winter
it’s pretty cold you just pay and leave
simple journey right a very
meaningless small simple journey
something that all of us have at one
point
taken and in any point in our lives
certainly won’t look back upon unless
something extraordinary happens
for example um let’s say you see a cat
that’s sitting outside the grocery store
and you feel happy
if not for the cat i bet you wouldn’t
have even remembered this journey that
you’ve taken
but if you think back to the very
beginning
to the very moment you stepped out the
house
to even before that when you stood up
from your chair and decided you wanted
to go
the first thing you did was to pick up
your phone
you ready with interactive technology
technology pieces of machinery and
equipment
developed from the application of
scientific knowledge
we associate the word technology with
science fiction with things like
lightsabers and spaceships and
accessible space
travel but we forget that
the world we are living in right now was
once full of plants
and ocean and wildlife looking around
us especially in a city as busy as hong
kong
we don’t see any of that now we don’t
see any of those remains
and now in the night time
when you look up in the sky instead of
the moon and the stars just twinkling
away
it’s lit up by all the smoke caused from
pollution and all the neon lights from
the buildings
when you fall asleep you hear the cars
just rushing by
all city sounds as people say and
we slowly forget that the world we’re
living on right now
is known as natural state
if you think about it nothing from the
natural world
is now in our lives to think that
this city was once a beautiful forest
with nothing but animals in it it’s just
unreasonable
it’s practically impossible but
this is our reality our reality
is that we’ve built this world with our
two hands
over our entire history our history
is that we’ve practically created a new
world for ourselves
and we’ve achieved the impossible we’ve
practically created a new planet
from this very earth so who’s to say
that
the impossible is just impossible
we’ve achieved so many great things in
the past and we will continue to achieve
many great things in the future
so never let the word impossible
stop you the impossible is always
possible
it’s just a matter of time so
i guess what i’m trying to say is the
impossible is
never impossible
