no rushing the stage please not rushing
the stage
so i was uh reading in a series of books
one day
and they came across an anonymous
epitaph that said
under these trees and under this sod
lies the body of solomon peas
he’s not here it’s just his pod he
shelled at his soul and
went up to god and it got me thinking
for a while what what
might he have been like and who was he
and was he real
i’ve done some research and found out
i’ve looked on the google
because the google is always completely
true but i’ve looked on the google and
found that uh
he was real and people have seen his
gravestone although there’s a little bit
of debate as to whether it’s back east
in the u.s or
some believe it’s in falkirk scotland
but i lived out in the midwest for a
little while in ohio and
met a lot of great people and i guess
put a little bit of them and a little
bit of me
in this song and a song about solomon
peas

there’s a hill on the north end of town
where a simple man’s grave is found
and he didn’t have much but he smiled
all the same
and the day he died the skies showed its
pain
he was a barber for most of his life
wearing clothes made by his wife
with a laugh that could tame the
toughest of souls
when you needed a smile man you knew
where to go
[Music]
he shelled out his soul and went
[Music]
please
[Music]
well his house was the smallest in town
that his heart was the biggest round
and he never saved the day but he’s a
hero to
[Music]
his life wasn’t heard and the preacher
stood up with a word
raised your glass to the sky by your
head for
off somebody somewhere must have needed
under these trees
[Music]
please
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
raise your glass to the sky
bow your head for a while
