let me paint you a picture of what
january 2020 looked like for me
the east coast of australia had been
burning for weeks
and there was a lingering sense of dread
as fire threatened to enter m
when i was three years old
i spoke what to me was a very simple and
honest truth
that despite being housed in the body of
a female
i was really a boy now i made this
announcement in early 1960s rural

the first time i came to washington
from the glorious place that i grew up
which was new jersey which
thank you thank you um everybody has
that jersey
envy um uh
we came down and i i d

hello everyone
it's really terrific to be here today
and i hope you enjoyed this tedx event
as
much as i do now i don't know about your
experience
but when i get to new meet

i grew up
in the beautiful city of buenos aires
argentina
in the 70s where the skies are always
blue
a bit like on this picture as a kid i
was fascinated by two things
surfing and computers ye
when i was six years old
growing up in medellin colombia i made
one of the most impactful decisions of
my life
i asked my mother to change my school
to the school where she was teaching to
my surprise
what's the first thing that comes to
your mind when you think of a pubic
library some of you may say it's a quiet
space where you can borrow books
but you cannot make new friends
because if you talk a

so i'm going to talk about the superhero
we need

she tells us we don't need another
madison had been
a great place to start a family and on
the surface
everything was fine we had a sweet home
and a walkable neighborhood between two
lakes
a tight community of friends and good
work
